Calling all Super Heroes!

We know all the people and animals working in laboratory animal science are SUPER HEROS - so, this year we are challenging everyone to dig deep into their inner super hero status and express it creatively on canvas. You don't have to be a super artist to participate. We're leaving it up to you to decide how you want to express your inner hero on canvas. You may paint, draw, glue, sew, staple, etc., your creative expression--as long as it conforms to the contest guidelines.

Don't miss out being part of this exciting and creatively challenging contest that's certain to be loads of fun and will also help support the AALAS Foundation and its mission!

Click here to enter the contest.  Find contest rules and more info here.

Deadline to Enter Contest is September 15, 2015.

Sharing the Passion

Sharing the Passion

The AALAS Foundation is proud to share the word about the compassionate professionals working in laboratory animal science. This year, we're sharing it big time by placing ½ page, full color ads in six USA Today print publications.

The first ad hit newsstands on April 20th in five major USA cities - New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Chicago, and Houston. The remaining ads will publish in June, July, August, October and November.

All six advertisements direct readers to our www.care.aalas.org website.

You can help us "Share the Passion" by sharing the ad with your friends and family - letting them know why you're passionate about what you do and the work being done in laboratory animal science.

The San Diego AALAS Outreach Team recently participated in Expo Day held at Petco Park, home of the San Diego Padres. Expo Day is part of the greater San Diego Festival of Science and Engineering which features a week of interactive demonstrations, hands-on activities and dynamic speakers to engage kids and families in science and engineering. Over 23,000 kids and families were in attendance.

SDAALAS was there to emphasize their particular focus toward education and careers in LAS. The AALAS Foundation was happy to help support this event by providing SDAALAS with free resource materials, such as our “Careers in Biomedical Research” brochures and “Animal Roles in Medical Discoveries” posters. These tools helped SDAALAS reach thousands of visitors with their message and dedication to the humane care and treatment of laboratory animals and the quality research that leads to scientific gains that benefit people and animals.

Thanks SDAALAS for your AMAZING outreach efforts!

Call for Candidates

Call for Candidates

Perhaps one of the most rewarding ways to contribute your time and abilities is to join the AALAS Foundation Board of Directors.

What are the responsibilities of a Foundation board member?

Board members work together under direction of the Chair to carry out the mission of the AALAS Foundation. Board members attend all meetings and participate in discussions via email and phone to:

  • Develop, implement and update annual and long-range plans for the AALAS Foundation.
  • Establish and support organizational, operational, funding and financial policies.
  • Secure adequate funds for AALAS Foundation operations and for its continued development.
  • Control and monitor finances and revenue-generating operations.
How are AALAS Foundation Directors-at-Large appointed?

Existing AALAS Foundation Board members choose candidates from the list of qualified applicants to be Directors-at-Large. New board members take office at the end of the AALAS National Meeting.

What are the terms of appointment?

AALAS Foundation Directors-at-Large serve a three-year term. To ensure continuity, board members' terms are staggered so that approximately one-third of the membership rotates off each year, and an equal number of new members are appointed. In 2015, three individuals will be elected to serve terms of three years.

What meetings will I have to attend?

The AALAS Foundation Board has a mid-year meeting in May or June and an annual meeting at the AALAS National Meeting, plus three or four teleconferences throughout the year. Members are also expected to serve on one or more standing or special subcommittees, all of which meet via teleconference two to three times per year. The AALAS Foundation Board of Directors does not reimburse travel, but travel expenses are calculated as an in-kind donation to the Foundation.

How do I apply to serve on the Foundation Board of Directors?

If you are interested in becoming an AALAS Foundation Board member, please send a resume and/or CV and a brief statement of your goals as an AALAS Foundation Director-at-Large by June 15 to foundation@aalas.org.
