Tune up your guitars and gather up your paint brushes!  The "Guitar Animal Hero" contest - to benefit the AALAS Foundation and its mission - is continuing to receive entry photos! 

Austin, Texas is known for its live music scene - country, blues and rock. We know all the people and animals working in laboratory animal science are ROCK STARS - strumming to a fast beat to achieve medical discoveries! 

This year, the AALAS Foundation has designed a "Guitar Animal Hero" contest to be held at the 2017 AALAS National Meeting in Austin, Texas!   We're challenging contestants to creatively paint/ decorate a wooden 10" guitar! 

Don't worry - you don't have to know how to play a guitar to enter the contest! Simply show off your imagination and talent by creatively painting/decorating an official contest guitar!

"Votes"/donations are now open and end October 18th at 11:00 am CST - click here to add your "vote"/donation for your favorite guitar entry today! 

A "vote" is actually a donation to the AALAS Foundation on behalf of a guitar entry! The guitar entry receiving the most "votes" on its behalf will be declared the winner of its Category. There will be one winner for each category - Individual, Branch, Corporate/Company and Institution/Organization categories.

The guitars will be on display at the Foundation's booth in the Austin Convention Center during the 2017 AALAS National Meeting. "Votes"/donations may be made on site at the Foundation's booth beginning Sunday, October 15,  2017.



Calling 5th through 12th grade students!

Enter the “Celebrate the Mouse Video Essay Contest” and share your knowledge about how
mice have helped advance major medical discoveries.

Eligible contestants will have the opportunity to earn CASH AWARDS by creatively producing a
video essay to show how mice in research have helped the lives of people and/or animals.

The Challenge: Create an original video essay explaining how you, a family member, friend, or
pet have benefited from medical discoveries made possible thanks to work conducted with
mice in biomedical research.

Contest begins September 1, 2017. Entries must be received by December 31, 2017.
This contest is open to all legal residents of the United States or District of Columbia who are registered
students in grades 5 – 8 or grades 9 ‐12. Every student is eligible: public, parochial,
private/independent, home‐school. NO PURCHASE NECESSARY TO ENTER CONTEST.

Share Your Passion about the important work being done in biomedical research and the important role mice (and other animals) have in the development of new treatment options for catastrophic diseases!

Request the free, fully scripted, speaker-ready, Power Point presentation - "Celebrate the Mouse" - "What's Happening in Breast Cancer Research?" and reach out within your local community for opportunities to present this informative program - it's perfect for presenting to breast cancer survivor/support groups and their friends/families.  Other Power Point presentations available are "Celebrate the Mouse" - "What's Happening in Heart Disease Research?" and "Celebrate the Mouse" - "What's Happening in Diabetes Research?".

Auction donations and/or auction donation pledges recieved by August 1, 2017 will be recognized in the AALAS National Meeting Program.

Start your engines - the Race is on! 

Do you want to be part of an exciting and creatively challenging contest that's sure to be loads of fun and also benefit the AALAS Foundation?

We know all the people and animals working in laboratory animal science are SUPER STARS - helping in the RACE to achieve medical discoveries!   

Charlotte, North Carolina, the setting for this year's AALAS National Meeting, is known for the NASCAR ALL STAR Race.  That's why, this year, the AALAS Foundation has designed a "100 ALL STAR Race" and we are challenging contestants to paint/decorate a wooden 6" race car.

Don’t worry – you don’t have to drive fast to participate! The deadline to enter the Race has ended, but, you can still participate by  “voting” for your favorite Race Car entry! (A “vote” is actually a donation to the AALAS Foundation made on behalf of Race Car entry.)

There will be four category winners - Individual, Branch, Corporate/Company and Institution/Association. Plus, we'll have "Facebook Fan Favorite" and "Best of Show" awards.

Our digital advertising campaign - “Share Our Passion to Care” - launched February 1st and it has already been distributed to over 1 million online viewers and over 7,000  page views to the www.care.aalas.org website!

February’s campaign promoted Heart Disease Awareness. March’s campaign acknowledged Kidney Disease Awareness and April is promoting Autism Awareness.



The AALAS Foundation is now accepting resumes to fill three Director-at-Law positions to be seated on its Board at the conclusion of the 2016 AALAS National Meeting in Charlotte.

Interested candidates should submit their resume and/or CV, along with a brief statement of their goals as an AALAS Foundation BOD, to foundation@aalas.org  no later than May 23, 2016.
